Pinspired: Cereal Box Mail Sorter

Like may of us, I’m totally addicted to Pinterest. There is such great inspiration there…from project ideas to beautiful photos, I have whole boards devoted to ideas I want to use in my crafting. The Cereal Box sorter below inspired my most recent Pinspired Project…the Cereal Box Mail Organizer. What I loved about this project is that it re-purposes something we’d throw away – it made me feel “green” and crafty and organized.

From Pinterest: Cereal Box Sorter

The problem that led me to making the mail sorter is that when I come in with the mail, I open/sort it on my radiator and then leave it in one big pile. Messy and easy to lose something important. As you can see in the picture, if it weren’t for my cat Lucy, the whole radiator would probably be covered in boxes filled with mail and other stuff to go upstairs.

The Cereal Box Mail Organizer is my solution! The idea is the same as the original pin, but I went a step further, and continued to cut down the boxes, so that the front box is 4″ shorter and the middle box is 2″ shorter than the back box. I also cut them so that the fronts of the boxes are 2″ shorter than the backs so that I could see what is in the box. Glued them all together, covered them in patterned paper, embellished with ribbon and some sticky alphas, and inked the edges. All products are Stampin’ Up! except for the sticky alphas which are from Webster’s Pages.

So now the boxes are upstairs, and the mail is sorted, and Lucy has even more radiator available to spread out. She takes her duties as Chief Radiator Guard very seriously and all that pesky clutter was distracting her for doing her job.
