While flowers and pipe-cleaners may not be to your liking, this technique demonstrates how sometimes the best way to draw attention away from unsightly things is to draw attention directly to them.

Look around your home…what could use some creative camouflage?

So when I was walking the dog the other day I saw these beautiful flowers growing on a rock in the river. I loved the combination of pink and green, so I snapped a picture and added it to Evernote to remind me to write this post!

Here are two color combos to work on from this photo. First, the obvious, which pulls the colors from the plant and the river:

Second, the not-so-obvious, which pulls the colors from the shadows:

Want to know how I picked these?

Ok…when I have a photo with colors I like, I typically just pick out the obvious ones…in this one it would be the pink of the flowers, the green of the leaves, and the blue of the water.

This time I decided to use colr.org to pick out color combos for me. Colr.org takes a photo, analyzes it, and pulls out a bunch of the colors used.

I scrolled through a bunch of combos until I found ones I liked. Then I matched those colors as closely as I could to Stampin’ Up! colors.

What is great about Colr.org is that it picks out combos that wouldn’t be all that obvious. I think this would be a great tool for scrapbooking, since you’d be able to match the color scheme of the page to the photograph!

I’m pretty new to Stampin’ Up!, and make fun of my upline Jess when she starts seeing SU! colors everywhere. All of a sudden, looking at this container I started doing it as well. Chcolate Chip? Garden Green? Old Olive? Summer Sun? Is that Pink Passion? What about that other yellow? Hmmm…doesn’t seem to match any of ours.

I used this color palette as the inspiration a card that I sent to Jess with a little present I was sending to her. It is a bit heavier on the green than was in the container, but I liked how the pink and yellow help make the card “pop”.

This was a nice and easy card to make. Using the Dreams du Jour set, I stamped the butterfly all over the Garden Green cardstock in Chocolate Chip Ink.

I then stamped the “Dreams” stamp in Stazon on Whisper white, and colored it using ink pads and blender pens.

Finally, I stamped the butterfly again on Summer Sun paper, cut it out, and glued it on the card using Tombow Multi and Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I’m typically a card maker, but this Saturday I’m taking my friend’s daughters to go see Disney on Ice. Since there is so much pink in this challenge, I thought it would make a great scrapbook page for our girls outing!

Using Flight of the Butterfly was a natural fit for such a girly page. I love how the small butter fly and flower make such a great background! I used the Stamp-a-ma-Jig to create the larger butterflies, then covered them in Crystal Effects and sprinkled them with Dazzling Diamonds.

I had a limited supply of chipboard letters, so I used one style for Disney and another for On Ice. Having the Big Shot would have been great because I could have cut all the letters I needed in the same font. I’m considering getting the Big Shot in 2009. I’ve seen so many fantastic projects that use it, I’m not sure I can resist much longer!

Walking my dog Albie this week I passed this great bunch of Black Eyed Susans. I immediately thought of the Inspired By Nature stamp set I received at the Stampin’ Up! convention earlier this month. I particularly loved the purple ones…not a color I would have thought of to use. The color is actually a bit washed out in this photo though…that is too much of my cell phone camera! Behind these flowers was a very tall bunch of decorative grasses…just like the other part of the stamp set!

This week I’m going to work on a card inspired by this photo. Will somehow have to make due with out sponge daubers though!
