As promised yesterday, here is how my Build-a-House turned out:

This was a fun and fairly easy project to complete. It is covered in retired holiday paper, Chocolate Chip cardstock for the trim, chocolate waffle paper for the roof, and Illuminate Smooch on all the trim to give it a glimmer.

I do have some tips on assembling the house:

The instructions say to adhere the paper to the chipboard before assembling. I would add one thing – since every piece has some sort of score line, I adhered one “face” at a time. I didn’t do that on the first piece I put together (the chimney) and because the paper was glued on so tight, it sort of cracked a bit at the bend. So on the remaining pieces, I’d glue, bend, glue.

Getting the roof on centered side-to-side and front-to-back is a bit tricky if you remove the backing on all the sticky strip for the roof. For future ones I’m going to adhere the front side first, and once I know it is in good position, then take off the backing on the sticky strip on the rear part of the roof.

A good part of the roof is exposed, so be sure to cover about 1/2″ to 1″ of the underside with paper too.

A coordinating marker does a good job of covering up the white edges of the chipboard. I used Soft Suede here. I also used the marker to color the inside of the chimney.

A flame less tea light inside may seem like a good idea, but it just makes it look like the house is on fire. Need to work on that idea bit – maybe cover the tea light up a bit?

My friend’s daughter had her 6th birthday on Saturday, and I made her this fabulous princess mirror as part of her present. I’m not sure she was that excited about it, but her mom and aunt were both ready to steal it from her, and her younger sister spent hours yesterday “cleaning” it with a Barbie tattoo applicator “gun”.

The crown is one of the new Decor Elements that were released a couple weeks ago. I love using Decor Elements. I’ve used them to decorate my Inspiration Board (which you can see in the mirror) and make a Welcome sign for my foyer. They are a great way to add stylish accents to your home. So far I’ve only used them on movable pieces, but they work great on walls too. I haven’t made that leap yet, but I have my eye on Tree, Thoughts and Prayers for my bedroom.

Back to the mirror! I purchased the mirror from Target, and I embellished it with some non-SU! rhinestones. To see how I applied the image, check out the video below for SU!’s demonstration of how to apply Decor Elements. The only thing I’d add, is that when applying to glass, the image sticks pretty quickly (unlike in the video where she can remove the image if it isn’t positioned right).

I recently made this Welcome Sign from Stampin’ Up!’s new Decor Elements line of vinyl wall art. I was inspired by this example.

It was so simple to do. I cut 4 pieces of DSP and glued them together. Then I applied the Decor Element to the glass of the frame – this video shows how easy it is to do!

I assembled the whole thing and realized that it needed something extra. So I added two ornaments I made from the On Board Trinkets from the Holiday Mini Catalog. Doesn’t it look great? I can’t wait to update it for the seasons…so easy to do…just change the DSP and embellishments.

Recipe:

Paper: Ski Slope DSP*

Tools/Accessories: Medium Welcome Decor Elements, On Board Trinkets*, Glue Stick, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, SNAIL, Silver Elastic Cord*

Starred Items are from the Holiday Mini Catalog
