Note: all the stamp sets used on this card are retired.

The base of the card is cut from an old Stampin’ Up box.  I used the existing fold in the box and cut a standard card side on either side. I then tore a bit of the top layer of paper off of one side. I then sponged Chocolate Chip ink all over the card.

The first layer is a scanned and printed copy of newspaper (I scanned it since I knew I was going to go through several copies of it!) I aged the paper with Creamy Caramel ink and tore the edges. I then scrunched it up to get it wrinkled, un-scrunched and gently rubbed Chocolate Chip in on it deepen the colors of the wrinkles.

The top layer is Very Vanilla stamped with Summer Sun ink and the striped stamp from Background Sampler. I then stamped a few sayings from So Many Sayings (Not Quite Navy, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust), and then the round stamp from Rustic Rooster (Ruby Red). It was distressed first with some Summer Sun ink rubbed in with a sponge. Then distressed around the edges with my fingernail and finally by rubbing More Mustard on the edges. The brackets were die cut using my Big Shot. Before running the Old Olive paper through I sponged Always Artichoke on them to add some depth. Finally, I put some non-SU grommets in on the ends to hold the ribbon.

Because the cardboard doesn’t lie nice and flat, I cut a long piece of ribbon and ran it behind the layer, through the grommets and it will tie in the back to keep the card closed.

This card features stamps that are new to the Summer-Spring catalog. Three are from the fantastic new Level 2 Hostess set, Rustic Rooster. It is a French themed set that has a script background stamp, a rooster, and two other accent stamps.  As soon as I saw this set I knew that I had to have it! That rooster just spoke to me. The other stamp is the Thank You that is embossed in the center of the card. This is one of  the individual stamps  that are new to the catalog. I love this thank you because it is simple and classy. It also works great with our Scallop Square Punch and I can’t wait to use it more!

To make this card I stamped the french script background stamp with Chocolate Chip ink several times on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. I then smooshed Old Olive, Close to Cocoa, and Creamy Caramel Stampin’ Spots on the paper to “age” it. Finally I stamped the little passport stamp in Ruby Red. I then let the ink dry for a minute then headed to the kitchen for the dangerous part (I luv danger. It’s my middle name. Ha!) So….I lit the edges of the paper on fire. Yes fire. I monitored it closely and when it looked like it was going to take over I smooshed the card stock between two flat silicone pot holders. Then repeated until I got the look I wanted at the edges.

Since I didn’t burn the house down, I turned to the rooster. I stamped him in Basic Grey, then colored him with blender pens, Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons, and Real Red classic ink.  Then I cut him out! Cock-a-doodle-doo!!!

Finally, I gold embossed the Thank You Stamp in the middle. It is a bit more subtle than I’d hoped but still looks good.
