Note: all the stamp sets used on this card are retired.

The base of the card is cut from an old Stampin’ Up box.  I used the existing fold in the box and cut a standard card side on either side. I then tore a bit of the top layer of paper off of one side. I then sponged Chocolate Chip ink all over the card.

The first layer is a scanned and printed copy of newspaper (I scanned it since I knew I was going to go through several copies of it!) I aged the paper with Creamy Caramel ink and tore the edges. I then scrunched it up to get it wrinkled, un-scrunched and gently rubbed Chocolate Chip in on it deepen the colors of the wrinkles.

The top layer is Very Vanilla stamped with Summer Sun ink and the striped stamp from Background Sampler. I then stamped a few sayings from So Many Sayings (Not Quite Navy, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust), and then the round stamp from Rustic Rooster (Ruby Red). It was distressed first with some Summer Sun ink rubbed in with a sponge. Then distressed around the edges with my fingernail and finally by rubbing More Mustard on the edges. The brackets were die cut using my Big Shot. Before running the Old Olive paper through I sponged Always Artichoke on them to add some depth. Finally, I put some non-SU grommets in on the ends to hold the ribbon.

Because the cardboard doesn’t lie nice and flat, I cut a long piece of ribbon and ran it behind the layer, through the grommets and it will tie in the back to keep the card closed.

This cute little box fits several Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares. It was so simple to make – you can find the tutorial here. This box features Bella Rose DSP and three punches: Scallop Square, Scallop Edge,  and Heart to Heart.

More Bella Rose DSP here… this card features the Dreams Du Jour and Inspired By Nature stamp set.

This card uses the Love You Much stamp set and Candy Lane DSP. I colored the image using Stampin’ Pastels and the right edge (look close!) is punched with a Scallop Edge Punch and a 1/16″ Circle Punch. I also used the 3/16″ Corner Rounder punch on the top layer with the image.

This card was quick and easy. It uses the Short and Sweet and So Many Sayings (retired) stamp sets. The hearts are filled in with Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds. And the Scallop Edge and Corner Rounder punches show up again!

Over the holidays I made cute little pointsettias using the 5 petal punch, so I decided to make some flowers for the card the same way. I stamped So Saffron and Perfect Plum card stock with the now retired Posy background stamp. The Pretty Petals or Boho Blooms backgrounds on Pp128-129 of the current catalog would also be great for this! Then I punched out 3 flowers of each color, and glued them together using Tombow Multi.

I then dug into my stash of retired On Board accents for the centers of the flowers and the green flower in the middle. On Board Batch of Blooms on p. 183 would has similar pieces. I then used a Sponge Dauber and Certainly Celery Classic Ink to color the chipboard. Then I glued the circles to the flowers, and stamped the #3 onto the green flower using Whisper White Craft Ink.

Turning to the card base, I used a retired hostess set, So Many Sayings to stamp the sentiment and the line of flowers on the bottom. Stampin’ Up! has several great birthday sentiments in the Greetings section of the catalog, starting on page 131. So Many Sayings is very similar to Many Happy Returns on p 137.

I started laying out the flowers on the card and decided that the top corners needed something, so I grabbed a flower from the Eastern Blooms set (p. 94) and stamped it with Rose Red ink. I also tried something  under the sentiment that TOTALLY didn’t work out, so I traced a chipboard circle and colored it in with a silver pen.  Then I glued everything together. Phew!!
