We live far apart so we picked a time to meet online and then stamped and chatted. Kristina Werner’s Color Challenge for this week was one of our inspirations.

I’m typically a card maker, but this Saturday I’m taking my friend’s daughters to go see Disney on Ice. Since there is so much pink in this challenge, I thought it would make a great scrapbook page for our girls outing!

Using Flight of the Butterfly was a natural fit for such a girly page. I love how the small butter fly and flower make such a great background! I used the Stamp-a-ma-Jig to create the larger butterflies, then covered them in Crystal Effects and sprinkled them with Dazzling Diamonds.

I had a limited supply of chipboard letters, so I used one style for Disney and another for On Ice. Having the Big Shot would have been great because I could have cut all the letters I needed in the same font. I’m considering getting the Big Shot in 2009. I’ve seen so many fantastic projects that use it, I’m not sure I can resist much longer!

Recipe:

Stamp Set: Flight of the Butterfly

Ink: Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Old Olive

Paper: Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Old Olive

Accessories: On Board Loads of Letters, On Board Lots of Letters, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, Stamp-a-ma-Jig, Tombow, SNAIL

I recently made this Welcome Sign from Stampin’ Up!’s new Decor Elements line of vinyl wall art. I was inspired by this example.

It was so simple to do. I cut 4 pieces of DSP and glued them together. Then I applied the Decor Element to the glass of the frame - this video shows how easy it is to do!

I assembled the whole thing and realized that it needed something extra. So I added two ornaments I made from the On Board Trinkets from the Holiday Mini Catalog. Doesn’t it look great? I can’t wait to update it for the seasons…so easy to do…just change the DSP and embellishments.

Recipe:

Paper: Ski Slope DSP*

Tools/Accessories: Medium Welcome Decor Elements, On Board Trinkets*, Glue Stick, Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds, SNAIL, Silver Elastic Cord*

Starred Items are from the Holiday Mini Catalog

I’m so proud of this card I made for my splitcoast little sister. The challenge was to use elements from nature (leaves, fibers, etc). The trees here haven’t turned yet, but I do have a bunch of twigs in the back of my yard from the last bad storm that came through. So I used one of the twigs as my inspiration:

I immediately thought of wrapping the twig with Linen Thread and hanging something off of it. I’ll explain how I attached it in a bit. But first let’s talk about the tree medallion. I decided to continue with the tree theme and use the “autumn” tree from SU!’s Tree For All Seasons stamp set. I colored in the tree using Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons (I’m still in love with them), and used Coluzzle to cut out the circle. I distressed the edge of the circle using my fingernails and then brushed it on my Chocolate Chip Classic Ink Pad. I then punched a hole in the top using my 1/16″ Circle Punch.

For the background on the card, I smooshed up a napkin, dabbed it on the Chocolate Chip Ink Pad, and then dabbed it all over the card stock. It is a great (and inexpensive) way to make an interesting background.

Now onto the twig and attaching it to the card. I pulled loose a good bit of Linen Thread. I started wrapping it around the middle of the twig, leaving about 6 inches loose at the end. Once I’d wrapped about an inch, I then cut the linen thread another six inches from where I stopped wrapping. I used Mini Glue Dots to secure the ends of the thread to the stick. I then used my hobby blade to put 2 holes in the card, about and inch apart and and inch from the top of the card. I pulled each end of the thread through a hole, and tied on the other side of the card. This held the twig in place while I tied on the medallion.

To hang the medallian, I cut off a piece of Linen Thread about 8″ long. I pulled the thread under the stick, and tied it so that equal lengths hung down. I then threded one of the lengths through the medallion, then tied in a nice bow to the other length. I then trimed the ends to a reasonable length.

Finally. I used Mini Glue Dots on the ends of the twig, to secure it in place.

All in all it was a very quick card to make, but packs a big WOW! I wish the picture did it justice, because it has such wonderful movement and texture!

Recipe:

Stamps: A Tree For All Seasons

Ink/Color: Chocolate Chip, Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons

Paper: Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla

Accessories: Linen Thread, Blender Pens, Mini Glue Dots

Today I was a bit stuck on what to do for my 2nd Make-and-Take for my Open House tomorrow. There are some great blogs out there that feature weekly sketch/color/inspiration challenges. I’ve been adding them to blogroll on the left, so if you are stuck, check them out! Today I was inspired by Taylored Expressions’ Cupcake Challenge #36. Here is the result of my playing around with her sketch:

The dots of dazzling diamonds don’t show up well on the image, but they just the right amount of sparke to this holiday card. The blue “border” around the circle snowman is done by dragging the front edge of the circle over the ink pad. It adds just the right abount of color to that image, and brings the whole card together.

Recipe:

Stamps: Window Dressing, Wishing You Cheer, Deer Friends

Paper: Baja Breeze, Pacific Point, Whisper White

Ink/Color: Pacific Point, Basic Black, Stampin’ Pastels

Tools/Accessories: Little Felt Flurries, Blender Pens, Dazzling Diamonds, Tombow, SNAIL, Mini Glue Dots

This album is a Make-and-Take we made at the Stampin’ Up! Convention this year. The cover is made from two mini square envelopes; inside are sheets of 3×6″ card stock. Holes are punched at the spine and it is held together by a ribbon. To make it more sturdy I used SNAIL between each page as well.

To adhere the coupons to the book I used Tombow Multi. Tombow is repositional if you let it dry before sticking the paper together. So whomever wins the basket will be able to take out the coupons, and then glue in photos of their loved ones, pets, favorite things…whatever floats their boat!

When I found the template for this holder, I knew I had to try to work it into my Holiday Card Class this year. The card is made by folding the DSP then decorating the outside and inside. It was so easy to make!

Here is the inside of the holder:

I just got back from a great trip to Boston. I got to do a fair amount of stamping with folks in my Upline (an upline/downline is like a “family” of Demonstrators). I’m fortunate to have a fabulous upline that are supportive, creative, and fun. My whole upline is in the Boston area, so I miss out on a lot of great meetings/events.

I lucked out that my trip coincided with my up-up-upline Diana’s downline meeting this weekend. I had such a great time - we chatted about creative projects and business ideas. We also swapped! Swapping is a way for card makers to share ideas and get creative inspiration. Diana asked us to do fall/Halloween themed cards. Here is mine, using the Level 3 Hostess Set Window Dressing:

This may look familiar…it is pretty much the same sketch as the card I did for my friend’s daughter’s birthday in July. The pumpkin and apple were colored with Watercolor Crayons - my new favorite Stampin’ Up! product! The grapes were colored with Stampin’ Pastels

Recipe:

Stamps: Window Dressing, Eastern Blooms

Ink/Coloring Tools: Chocolate Chip, VersaMark, Watercolor Crayons (Pumpkin Pie, Ruby Red), Stampin’ Pastels (Elegant Eggplant)

Paper: More Mustard, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, Bella Rose DSP

Accessories/Tools: Stamp-a-ma-Jig, 5/8″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon, Blender Pens, Hobby Blade, Paper Snips, Tombow, SNAIL
