I decided to pair it up with Clean and Simple sketch #98 since the room in the picture has such clean lines and crisp colors. I typically don’t use sketches, but the clean and simple style does not come easily to me and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

Having picked the sketch, I focused on the colors, deciding on More Mustard, Tempting Turquoise and Rich Razzleberry on Shimmery White paper. But as I worked with the sketch I realized that it needed some other colors, so I added Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron (see the vase on the table). I decided to use a stamp from the Circle Circus stamp set because there is a roundness to the couch, table, and centerpiece in the picture.

The more I look at this card, the more I love it!

When I saw the most recent Cards Challenge asking for handmade flowers I decided to revisit my Artisan Award entry that used the punch art flower. I’d already made the flower for the tutorial that I plan on writing, so I just needed to come up with a new idea for the base.

Sticking with the Tea Party DSP, I decided to weave strips of the paper and then cut with the Top Note Die. After I finished weaving the paper, I glued it onto my card base, making sure that the weave hung over the fold at the top of the card. I then ran the whole card through the Big Shot using the Top Note die, being careful to position the paper so that the fold of the base would stay intact, but the ragged edges of the DSP basket weave would be cut off.

Since the Top Note is a good bit smaller than a standard card, I had less room to work with for the sentiment. Because of the spring like pastel colors, I decided to make this a baby card by using the Small Wonder sentiment from the retired Whimsical Words set.

Continuing with my obsession with crumpling and distressing paper, I stamped the sentiment on Crumb Cake using Elegant Eggplant, ripped the edges and crumpled. Then I ripped the edges of some retired Almost Amethyst paper and crumpled again. I paper pierced the edges of the bottom layer and inserted some silver brads. I then glued the top layer on using Mini Glue Dots.

Finally I tied some linen thread around the bottom of the card and adhered the sentiment over top using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I’ll be working on the detailed tutorial for the flower this weekend. You can find the “short” version of how to make this punch art flower in my earlier post.

The So Shelli Creative Challenge for August is to use a color combination from Stampin’ Up!’s new Color Coach. I knew I wanted to give this challenge a try, but had originally intended to pick a combo using Bravo Burgundy, a color that I have a really hard time working with.

However, on Friday night I decided to sort through all my scraps and file them away. (I store them by color in clear page protectors in a binder.) As I was working through months of scraps, I discovered that somewhere along the line the scrap pile had a run in with some Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive (ooops). There was this pile of Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait and So Saffron strips that were all glued together. I was about to throw them out, when I realized that they would make a really cool embellishment for a scrapbook page.

So I whipped out the Color Coach, looked up Peach Parfait and there it was: Creative Combination – Peach Parfait, Pear Pizzazz, and Not Quite Navy. So I got working on the scapbook page and here is what I came up with:

So, what about the So Saffron? Well, both Pear Pizzazz and Not Quite Navy cards suggest using More Mustard. More Mustard is a Dynamic Duo with So Saffron, which means that they are the same color, just different shades. So Saffron works better with Peach Parfait because it is a lighter shade.

To jazz up the base of the page, I stamped the flower from the hostess set Because I Care repeatedly using Night of Navy ink. For the journaling block I stamped the hydrangea on the So Saffron Top Note die cut using So Saffron ink. It gives that element nice texture without distracting from the text.

In the top right corner is the mess of scraps and Tombow that inspired this whole page. I ran it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions folder.

I then added some bling using Fire Circle Rhinestone Brads taken out of their settings, and created a small flower using some retired So Saffron grosgrain ribbon.

Recipe

Stamps: Because I Care

Paper: Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait, So Saffron, Not Quite Navy

Ink: Night of Navy, So Saffron

Embellishments: Fire Circle Rhinestone Brads, 5/8″ So Saffron Grosgrain Ribbon (retired)

Tools: Corner Rounder Punch, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Folder, Top Note Die, Billboard Die

My good friend and up-upline, Amy, just texted me to say “Help! I want to stamp but am creatively challenged!” So I made up this crazy challenge for her:

Pick out your least used stamp set

Pick out your 3 least favorite or used colors

Make a 3″ x 4″ card

My thinking is that if we work with stamps, colors, and a size that we don’t normally use it’ll get the juices flowing. I’m joining her in trying this tonight, and you should too! When you are done, take a photo, post online (splitcoast, your blog, flicker, wherever), and leave a note in the comments on where to find it!

Can’t wait to see the results!
